A Blog About the Story 'Tata Selo'
Tata Selo is a Filipino Literature written by Rogelio R. Sikat. It is a story about an old farmer that was imprisoned for killing the owner of his land that wants to fire him. He sold his land for his wife that sadly passed and he wanted to reclaim his land once more by earning enough money to buy his land back, however due to owner of the land already having enough farmers, he fired and kept hitting Tata Selo and in self defense he killed the owner.
This story describes the hardships faced by Filipinos during the set time period of the story. the story explored the struggles such as the exploitations of the land and the abuse of power by the more powerful citizens, such hardships are displayed beautifully and properly for many generations to understand how discriminated and abused the lesser powerful people, and such may still be occurring in modern times. Sikat showed injustice by describing the punishment and treatment given to Tata Selo which they gave him an improper treatment because of the crime he has committed.
The story's main lesson that I have taken is that the wealthy will always be powerful and that the weak will always be powerless against the wealthy, they are able to use what they have to make us suffer and that fighting back may only spell a horrible consequence for us, however that doesn't mean we should always bend and break for them and not all are always the same. We should stand for what we think is right and what we deserve, and we should also be understanding about others because we are all the same people, strip all the status, money and strength we are all the hopeful and strong people that has lived for so many centuries.
